The artist, Dr. Dorit Amikam, was asked a few years ago to lecture a course in the University on the subject of "Medicine in China from the Traditional Era to Modern Times" and while preparing it, was fascinated and captured with China`s culture, history, philosophy and way of life.

These feelings and fascination were accompanied to the dramatic impression the artist, Dorit, got when visiting and traveling throughout China a few years ago, being so impressed with the richness and meaningful of the latter aspects.

Taking into consideration that Dorit have always admired strong women and their achievements, and is busy with this latter issue-subject-theme for years, and being so completely captivated with China, and specifically with women in traditional China, she is painting now over and over again, at different angles and aspects, the emotional impact having from the last empress of China, of a woman so complex, beautiful, powerful and manipulating that made her way from a simple girl to a concubine and then to be the second important wife of The Emperor.

This engaging woman later bore a son to him, The emperor and thus became The empress, losing a lot in life, but gaining a lot of her wishes...and having to survive and succeed in the intrigues of the Palace and save the crown for her growing son and all in a men`s world which is always hard, not to mention in those days and in China...Thus she was dominating him, he was very weak, spiritually and physically and she dominated him skillfully and intelligently and elegantly...and reigned the empire.
